[personal profile] shmaylor posting in [community profile] pod_together
Here is the 2025 Posting Schedule! The mods will reveal the work on AO3 on your posting day; participants should plan to update the posting date on their work so it'll show up on fandom RSS feeds and at the top of the fandom tag when sorted by date. Unfortunately, AO3 won't let you list a posting date in the future so you'll have to manually change it on your reveal date. (We'll send you an email reminder about this on the day of your reveal.)

For now, the links on this schedule will just take you to unrevealed posts, but once each day is revealed, the links will take you to the projects and this post will double as a masterlist for all our 2025 projects!

  • Reminder #1: Party Favors are due September 6th, and will be revealed September 7th. To submit a Party Favor, simply publish it to the Pod_Together 2025 AO3 collection

  • Reminder #2: To those participants with extensions, please remember that your due date is our agreed-upon extension date, not your posting date. However, if you would like to turn in a complete, postable version at your deadline and then update it between then and your posting date with changes, you may.

  • Reminder #3: Don't forget to give your partner(s) some appreciation for the awesome creations you made together!

2025 Posting Schedule )

Please leave a comment here, or email the mods, if there are any conflicts or issues with your posting dates or if any info on this posting schedule is incorrect and needs to be fixed.

We're so excited to reveal all of your projects!

Jensen time....

I'm still lapping up clean-shaven Jensen goodies, I'm just making the most of this time because I'm pretty sure Jensen will go back to his beard when his filming is over, but for now I'm going to bask in the clean-shaven glory.

On that subject, I'm somewhat disappointed that I've seen people on social media saying they don't like this look.  Apparently some idiots have even said it to his face at Austin con, (I mean, why? Why would you do that?) I just don't get it.  He was clean-shaven for fifteen years on Supernatural.  Dean was clean-shaven, and he's the character that most of us first fell in love with when it came to Jensen. So, yeah, I don't get it.

Maybe it's me.  I'm not a fan of facial hair, never have been.  I once jokingly told Mr Dizzo that I'd divorce him if he ever grew a beard.  Thankfully, in 31 years of marriage, he's never gone more than a long weekend without shaving.  Although it's nice for him to know he's got an out if he ever does get fed up with me!!

Anyhow, enough rambling.  Let's get on with the Jensen prettiness...

Enjoy!

Pairings/Characters: Lan Zhan | Lan Wangji/Wei Ying | Wei Wuxian
Rating: Explicit
Length: 70,972 words
Creator Links: harriet_vane at AO3
Theme: Marriage of Convenience

Summary:

It’s a really unfortunate thing, developing a crush on your husband. Wei Ying had assumed this would be easy. Lan Zhan had been so icy and unpleasant to him, it had never occurred to him that he might end up spending the next however many years with this dumb, burning feeling in his chest whenever he looks at him.

“Okay,” says Wei Ying. “But tell me if I…if the pretending gets to be too hard, okay?”

“It will not,” says Lan Zhan, quietly certain.

Reccer’s Notes: Is it redundant to rec a fic that has 31,682 kudos (and counting)? And has already been recced on this community (although 5 years ago and for a different theme?) Probably. Am I going to do it anyway? Yes. Yes, I am.

Because it is fabulous.

It’s kidfic with Yaun at his most adorable, it’s a modern AU, it’s beautifully written and even if you’ve read it before I’m sure now is a great time for a reread.

Lan Zhan is his impeccable, smitten, useless at communicating self and Wei Wuxian is, as always, just doing his best in the circumstances he finds himself in.

An absolute classic. BTW, If you haven’t dipped a toe in MDZS canon or fanon, you could read this anyway due to its AU nature, and then perhaps be hooked… 31,682 AO3 users can’t be wrong, right?

Fandom: Hawaii five-O
Characters/Pairings: Danny Williams/Steve McGarrett, Grace, Kono, Chin
Rating: Explicit
Length: 13,614
Content Notes: no AO3 warnings apply
Creator Links: Siria on AO3
Themes: Marriage of Convenience, First time, Fake marriage, Action/adventure, Family, AU: fork in the road

Summary: As active as Danny's imagination was, however, as strong as all his fears could be at the thoughts of his little girl being taken away from him again, he'd forgotten to factor in one very important element: Steve.

Reccer's Notes: This take on the marriage of convenience trope centres on Danny's devotion to his daughter, Grace. His ex moves to the US mainland with her husband and the only way Danny can get custody is if he's in a stable relationship - a marriage. Steve tells the judge they're about to marry and Danny stumbles through it, baffled at the way his team fully accept the situation and only berate him for keeping the affair a secret. The story takes us through the usual enjoyable dilemmas of a fake marriage like the need to share a bed, made more pressing with Grace in the house as she believes the marriage is genuine (which of course it is - Danny just doesn't know it yet). They're clearly married in the show and in this fic, but in Danny's case, massively oblivious (Steve not so much, having masterminded the marriage plan), and it all works out happily, as expected. Along the way there's lots of amusing snark and backchat, and it's wonderfully written, and a thoroughly good read.

I'll start with the tl;dr summary to make sure everyone sees it and then explain further: As of September 1, we will temporarily be forced to block access to Dreamwidth from all IP addresses that geolocate to Mississippi for legal reasons. This block will need to continue until we either win the legal case entirely, or the district court issues another injunction preventing Mississippi from enforcing their social media age verification and parental consent law against us.

Mississippi residents, we are so, so sorry. We really don't want to do this, but the legal fight we and Netchoice have been fighting for you had a temporary setback last week. We genuinely and honestly believe that we're going to win it in the end, but the Fifth Circuit appellate court said that the district judge was wrong to issue the preliminary injunction back in June that would have maintained the status quo and prevented the state from enforcing the law requiring any social media website (which is very broadly defined, and which we definitely qualify as) to deanonymize and age-verify all users and obtain parental permission from the parent of anyone under 18 who wants to open an account.

Netchoice took that appellate ruling up to the Supreme Court, who declined to overrule the Fifth Circuit with no explanation -- except for Justice Kavanaugh agreeing that we are likely to win the fight in the end, but saying that it's no big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime.

Needless to say, it's a big deal to let the state enforce the law in the meantime. The Mississippi law is a breathtaking state overreach: it forces us to verify the identity and age of every person who accesses Dreamwidth from the state of Mississippi and determine who's under the age of 18 by collecting identity documents, to save that highly personal and sensitive information, and then to obtain a permission slip from those users' parents to allow them to finish creating an account. It also forces us to change our moderation policies and stop anyone under 18 from accessing a wide variety of legal and beneficial speech because the state of Mississippi doesn't like it -- which, given the way Dreamwidth works, would mean blocking people from talking about those things at all. (And if you think you know exactly what kind of content the state of Mississippi doesn't like, you're absolutely right.)

Needless to say, we don't want to do that, either. Even if we wanted to, though, we can't: the resources it would take for us to build the systems that would let us do it are well beyond our capacity. You can read the sworn declaration I provided to the court for some examples of how unworkable these requirements are in practice. (That isn't even everything! The lawyers gave me a page limit!)

Unfortunately, the penalties for failing to comply with the Mississippi law are incredibly steep: fines of $10,000 per user from Mississippi who we don't have identity documents verifying age for, per incident -- which means every time someone from Mississippi loaded Dreamwidth, we'd potentially owe Mississippi $10,000. Even a single $10,000 fine would be rough for us, but the per-user, per-incident nature of the actual fine structure is an existential threat. And because we're part of the organization suing Mississippi over it, and were explicitly named in the now-overturned preliminary injunction, we think the risk of the state deciding to engage in retaliatory prosecution while the full legal challenge continues to work its way through the courts is a lot higher than we're comfortable with. Mississippi has been itching to issue those fines for a while, and while normally we wouldn't worry much because we're a small and obscure site, the fact that we've been yelling at them in court about the law being unconstitutional means the chance of them lumping us in with the big social media giants and trying to fine us is just too high for us to want to risk it. (The excellent lawyers we've been working with are Netchoice's lawyers, not ours!)

All of this means we've made the extremely painful decision that our only possible option for the time being is to block Mississippi IP addresses from accessing Dreamwidth, until we win the case. (And I repeat: I am absolutely incredibly confident we'll win the case. And apparently Justice Kavanaugh agrees!) I repeat: I am so, so sorry. This is the last thing we wanted to do, and I've been fighting my ass off for the last three years to prevent it. But, as everyone who follows the legal system knows, the Fifth Circuit is gonna do what it's gonna do, whether or not what they want to do has any relationship to the actual law.

We don't collect geolocation information ourselves, and we have no idea which of our users are residents of Mississippi. (We also don't want to know that, unless you choose to tell us.) Because of that, and because access to highly accurate geolocation databases is extremely expensive, our only option is to use our network provider's geolocation-based blocking to prevent connections from IP addresses they identify as being from Mississippi from even reaching Dreamwidth in the first place. I have no idea how accurate their geolocation is, and it's possible that some people not in Mississippi might also be affected by this block. (The inaccuracy of geolocation is only, like, the 27th most important reason on the list of "why this law is practically impossible for any site to comply with, much less a tiny site like us".)

If your IP address is identified as coming from Mississippi, beginning on September 1, you'll see a shorter, simpler version of this message and be unable to proceed to the site itself. If you would otherwise be affected, but you have a VPN or proxy service that masks your IP address and changes where your connection appears to come from, you won't get the block message, and you can keep using Dreamwidth the way you usually would.

On a completely unrelated note while I have you all here, have I mentioned lately that I really like ProtonVPN's service, privacy practices, and pricing? They also have a free tier available that, although limited to one device, has no ads or data caps and doesn't log your activity, unlike most of the free VPN services out there. VPNs are an excellent privacy and security tool that every user of the internet should be familiar with! We aren't affiliated with Proton and we don't get any kickbacks if you sign up with them, but I'm a satisfied customer and I wanted to take this chance to let you know that.

Again, we're so incredibly sorry to have to make this announcement, and I personally promise you that I will continue to fight this law, and all of the others like it that various states are passing, with every inch of the New Jersey-bred stubborn fightiness you've come to know and love over the last 16 years. The instant we think it's less legally risky for us to allow connections from Mississippi IP addresses, we'll undo the block and let you know.

Title: Crisis Averted (Or Five Times Social Media Caused Problems and One Time It Didn't)

When Tony wakes up and joins the other Avengers for a Bruce-made breakfast amidst shattered windows and a god-sized crater in his floor, he has to suffer Pepper’s fond exasperation and Steve's confused hurt before everyone remembers that Tony’s default state is dramatic with a side of unseriousness, obviously, and Jameson is just asking for a lawsuit.

1. Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

https://archiveofourown.org/works/963730 Probably this one about Chaff and Haymitch the last night before the Quarter Quell.

2. What are your top three most commonly used tags on AO3?

Time Travel, Alternate Universe are my most used ones

3. What’s something you learned while researching a fic?

Who came second in the World Series in 2004 (not something I'd usually follow, but there's a specific Lost reference around who won, and it came up in a fic). Also some German Christmas traditions.

4. Is there a character or ship you’d love to write for, but haven’t yet?

For the benefit of those who haven't known me that long (if you've known me a while, you may well know) I will seriously try anyone once, in fact I do try to write as many characters as I can, especially the ones who don't get much attention (focusing on the same old characters has been my pet peeve for years). I'd like to do Claire from School Spirits, spend a bit more time with the Doppler family on Dark, Yellowjackets Lottie, Akilah and Mari.

5. What makes a fic ‘successful’ in your opinion?

When I'm happy with what I've ended up with.

6. What makes you happiest? New fic comments, kudos, bookmarks, user subscribers, story subscribers, or Tumblr asks?

Just generally getting good feedback. That was something that had made me particularly happy on an old Vampire Diaries fic for an exchange back in 2012 which I didn't think was any good due to family stuff going on at the time but I'd stubbornly refused to default.

7. Does anyone you know in real life know you write fanfiction?

No, and at this point I don't think I'm ready to change that. Let's just say I have this one relative who loves to get a reaction (things like spending half of Boxing Day Googling my ex from university, banging on about my cousin allegedly crying about the lack of crocodiles in Crocodile Dundee although the jury's still out on whether that really happened, spamming everyone he knows with right wing memes on Whatsapp, and he doesn't know when to shut up) - if he ever saw anything I'd written, he'd be reading it out to get a big laugh at the Christmas dinner table, probably 20 years on.

8. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

I never have so far.

9. What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

It's a rewrite of School Spirits Season 2, where Mr Martin chooses Emilio to possess instead and how that ends up impacting on Charley and Yuri.

10. Do you ever prep your fics with outlines or warmups before you start writing, or do you just dive right in?

I tend to dive right in. Sometimes I wonder if I should do an outline, but sometimes I find it gets away from anything I had in my head. Saying that, I have tried to work out something for the above School Spirits plot (don't want to get to the point of my Dark series where I was a few chapters in and then realised I hadn't factored in Noah).

11. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?

It can be a few minor edits.

12. A character you enjoy making suffer.

I can't say I "enjoy" making any suffer per se, but for me it's not always avoidable. If I actively dislike the character, I just don't write them.

13. A character you want to protect.

Dark's Mikkel Nielsen. Unfortunately, given the timeline, this isn't the easiest.

14. What is your favorite fic to get comments/messages on?

Pretty much any, although I still dread it a bit on the one that got thoroughly trolled in 2019 by what I now know was a known troll.

15. What fic took you the longest to write?

I keep saying I will finish this Lost fic, although I haven't touched it since 2010. Basically the idea was that instead of ending up in 2007 when the Ajira flight crashed, Sun ended up joining her friends in 1977 and was reunited with Jin in the DHARMA Initiative. I got as far as where Ben is shot, and then canon decided to kill off Sun and Jin. (Yes, Smokey McSmokeFace, you are still dead to me.) After having lost heart to continue it at the time, I keep saying I'll go back to it. After that it's probably Caught Somewhere In Time, which I'm about half way through the last chapter of after having started towards the end of 2023. Note to self: trying to change the already complicated timeline on Dark may not be the best idea in the world...
